I was hesitant getting this but Im glad I caved. If I hadn't then I wouldnt even be on my game making journey yet. Been amazing to manipulate and play with. Gonna watch the extensive doucmentation videos to learn this bad boy inside out lol! I haven't had much time since purchase to get my hands dirty, but WOW. The blueprints are really well laid out, and the tutorials, in my opinion, are the best on the UE Marketplace. Very well spoken, perfect speed, really dosn't leave you scratching your head at all. I'm sure once I go deeper I'll have questions, but I really can't state how good the tutorials are. Really great to listen to.
This is already my favorite asset, and I own a LOT of game template assets.

I am a solo developer making his first game with Unreal Engine. This is the first and only asset I have bought so far. I have done some playtesting with the available features and everything advertised is present and functional. I won't need every feature but damn if I only used half of this it'd be saving me thousands of hours. I can't honestly speak as to how well optimised or easy to modify this is but I'll update the review if possible when I've spent more time with it.
My initial impression is that unless you already know how to build an RPG/Soulslike combat system to an AAA standard I think you'd be insane to try and recreate this from scratch instead of buying FCS, learning from it and adapting it to your requirements.

By far the most annoying thing is the UE4 mannequin. There is not an easy way to go around it. for a reason im not sure, the health bars seemed locked and very hard to adjust. Minimap is a pain to resize. All these things shouldnt require more than a simple drag but no. This is jus the easy things.
AI is lackluster at best, some animations are wrong and there are cheaper AI on the marketplace that are highly customizable. With this pack good luck swapping your own character without pulling your hair. The pack is not as good as it looks/sound. Once you try to use it, thats when its going to dawn on you.

This has been a rather amazing purchase. The discord is very active and there's tutorial after tutorial that quickly gets you through what you need to know. Jon continues to improve this system in incredible ways. Well worth the money to get anyone started on a feature extensive game.

Without a basic saving system, multiplayer basically doesnt work.
I read about the excuse that every game needs its own, its obvious, but for integrating even the most basic one you have to work heavly on the system that is clearly not made with multiplayer in mind (at least for the start)

The system is so much more than a simple combat system. Since you probably already know about most of the features, I'll focus on what you might not know.
With your purchase you get access to numerous tutorials that show you how the system is built, how to customise it or even how to turn it upside down. The constantly growing community is very friendly and helpful and there is great communication between the creator and the community. The community's wishes are also taken into account, be it certain topics that should be covered in tutorials or, as recently, the wish for a kind of guideline document that helps you to find your way around more quickly and to answer final questions. Thanks to the neatly annotated blueprints, one can quickly find the possibility of linking to the system and building on it.
For me, the greatest strengths are the system's scope and flexibility and, beyond that, the tutorials and the dialogue with the community - the fact that a seller works in so many different places at the same time and offers so much more beyond the product is unique and legendary.

- Been using this for 6 months. Good starting point for medieval fighting game. I love the fact that system is expandable (pretty easy to add new weapon or exchange animations). Solid reusability. Event-based system is fantastic.
- As confirmed by creator some animations are placeholders and while they do 90% of the job you might need to replace some of them.
- UI style itself is a bit outdated to my taste and needs refinement but you would probably do it anyway, so not a big deal.
Overall - I did not see any other alternative that is better than this. I would advise to try it and refine for your needs.
Also worth noting - creator is very helpful and quick on response. Top notch support.

FCS includes everything you need to make an RPG game. What makes FCS stand apart from other systems on the Marketplace, is the feeling the combat system gives you. It feels like a AAA Action RPG out of the box, even the demo is amazing. Another thing is the optimization, in 1080p it uses very little system resources and all blueprints are nicely commented. The author is also VERY helpful. The last thing is the amount of implemented systems, all fully fleshed out and with professional animations.
After looking at many other templates like this, this is in my humble opinion the best of them all, try the demo and see for yourself. Highly recommended.

I am totally impressed with everything about what Beardman has done with this combat asset. I do have other combat assets...but to be honest...this one seems to be the easiest to use and very well thought out. The amount of support I see on discord + Youtube is by far...what sets this apart from others. Beardman's willingness to help and provide new features over time is another example of how much this will be a complete success. The amount paid is an excellent deal for what is provided. The price will and should increase over time...definitely purchase this before any increase if you are on the fence, but even so...purchase it no matter what the future price may be. You will not regret your purchase...if you know what you are looking for.
I purchased with the idea of adding this to my VR project...while needing (myself) to provide a way to convert the widgets that make up the onscreen interface + menus on a flatscreen monitor to somehow use them in VR (which presently cannot be done in VR as is due to the different way VR shows Hud like content). This is bit of a task...but I'm half way there presently...with one of the widgets (as a start) showing in VR...but still in the process of figuring out how to update the widget with it's content from FCS...like the Viewport process does.,,,there are so many blueprints that make up the interface...lol
The blueprints that make up FCS are so well layed out and documented...this really helps with tweaking and customizing...if that is what one wants to do. The amount of extra resources like animations, sounds, weapons...etc...makes this a steal compared to others. Totally worth it.
Really hoping the controller update is coming soon...though I was able to get my VR controllers working with this for basic moves and actions...the addition of whatever Beardman has planned for controller support will be very welcomed.
I'm definitely looking forward to the future of this great asset...Cheers!!!!

I love this product it is amazing however I really need help getting Characters/Weapons I'm making in Blender>Mixamo to swap out with the starter stuff. I watched the tutorial but it seems they have removed some options since your video was made in Unreal Engine. If you could help that would be strongly appreciated! Seem to be having a lot of issues with the skeletons. Again Beautiful product, just wish I could use it haha.

So, first of all, there is obviously a lot of work that went into this, more than most people have the time to spend on to create a system like this. That, however, doesn't mean it's without its flaws. There are a lot of five-star reviews here, and I suspect the reviewers either haven't delved into using this to create an actual game or have just decided the flaws are features.
First of all, I hope you like the UE4 mannequin because trying to strip all its elements away to add your own character or AI is a hassle.
Second: Want an AI that is something besides humanoid? Good luck with that. It isn't just as simple as recreating the animation blueprint for a new skeletal mesh. This system REALLY loves the UE4 mannequin, and you will have to rewrite some blueprints to make any other skeletal mesh work.
Third, there are several maps built into this asset, but you can't travel between them. Why? Because traveling between maps breaks the questing system. A quest you pick up in Map A will automatically break if you go to Map B and returning to Map A doesn't fix this.
Fourth, I've lost count on all the blueprints I've had to add an "IsValid?" check to because I get an error for a null reference.

A great starting point for an action RPG game; it has almost anything you could want. The creator also has a youtube channel with a wealth of knowledge for beginners directly related to this asset, as well as information on a range of other useful topics. Very worth it.

eveyrything is super well documented and easy to tweak to your liking, the package comes with examples of EACH combat system (i.e. Ranged has its own map to learn from, melee, etc which breaks down each feature as you play along!) i have just started the tutorials on the project from the creator through YoutTube and i'm learning other things as I go along, %100 worth
I really hope to see more from you in the future, maybe something along the line of character customization + baking in one package :) :) :D
P.S. I was on the fence of whether to get this package or Ascent and I found out that Ascent has very poor documentation no real tutorials, no proper examples and not beginner friendly.

This review is for new people, since, I am new.
I had an easy time following the tutorials. I had an easy time implementing this into the world I created and I learned some stuff along the way. The community in discord is very nice and helpful and there's a webseries on youtube about this product. I could easily see this (in my limited scope) going for 249 or more. There's a massive amount here, guides, walkthroughs and of course community help.
I want to personally thank BeardGames for this contribution, it's going to help me make an excellent game that wouldn't have been possible without them.
Everything is mapped out, everything is labeled, being COMPLETELY new I was able to buy, install and be able to hand-to-hand combat in under 45m easily can do it faster now. (probably 10 minutes or less for you smarties out there) I'm just now digging into it and have only spent about 6 hours in system but this is magnificient. It feels good and EVERYTHING can be adjusted.
This was my first purchase on the epic store, i was so wholly impressed by the demo I joined the community and loved them too.
If you THINK this is what you might want, BUY IT NOW. It's worth it and probably won't be this price forever.

I bought the first FCS and it was a great system, it was really good to learn unreal. The youtube channel is also very good for anyone that wants to learn unreal. Fantastic system that merges multiple combat styles in one easy to use package.
The combat feels smooth and responisive, deffinitely some of the best on the marketplace. Each style has been given the same love and care, well thought out and viable for practially any project even if you werent thinking of using it. The magic is so fun to use it would be a waste to to ignore it.
Adding in your own stuff is a breeze, everything is set up cleanly, you just need your assets and a few entries in a data table and voila.
If you need Great combat i really cant recomend this asset enough.

Also have to say that the asset develloper and the Discord community are both really welcoming. I am wondering if anybody has any experience integrating FCS with the GMC component? I am building a fast-paced networked multiplayer game with some custom movement abilities. It's important that the client side movement is instant and not waiting for ping. I am wondering if movement like this is already supported in FCS, or if I can easily integrate it with the GMC character movement component and then build my movement abilities on top of that.

I have yet to purchase FCS, although do intend to. Once it's for 5.4, at least.
However the reviews make it hard because the seller, despite all the tutorials they put out, doesn't care about how the perception is that their reviews are full of fakes for Discord purposes. Not their fault but as the seller they can report them properly and clean it up.
This isn't just this seller [Jon]'s issue tho. It's a EpicGames thing, but it makes it hard to determine if the product actually is worth the pricing when there are no actual helpful reviews in bulk.
That aside, the latest update does really look interesting and may be pushing me to move forward.

Hi, I watched your video on this product and am wondering if and how I can add a wand/scepter or staff that gives you certain magic abilities or modifies the current ones while it is your current weapon?
Such as, say I already have the firebolt ability learnt and equipped. I pick up an Ice Wand and equip it, it then turns my firebolt into a icebolt, turns the fireball equipped vfx off and has a vfx of the icebolt equipped onto the wand mesh via certain socket.
I dont expect this product to be able to do this right off the start, as I know it doesn't, however, before I purchase this expensive product I would like to know that I will be able to achieve it and have a good idea on how it is done using this system.

Do you have the structs setup for male verses felmale items such as armor or clothing. We are looking very hard at this set but need to know if we will have to duplicate sections of the system to accomidate the different gear for players or chracter variations. Mesh and bones issue

I asked this qusetion at least four times on discord with no help. In the newest version i am using my own mesh and when I do all the animations don't work. Some do but some don't. The idle and attack animations only work sometimes whne I am attacking but not when idle or and attacking in place- the bottom half of the animations (legs) don't work. They work with the new mesh if I just preview them but not in game. I think it might have something to do with your ik bones and set up because the same mesh I am using works just fine with older versions but not the new one. Any help on discord would be appreciated. Hello, firstly thank you for the work and effort you put into this product. I recently purchased this product. Just starting the default project, no changes at all, nothing added or removed I get errors during combat. The errors all reference the component files.
Example:
Blueprint Runtime Error: "Accessed None trying to read property RangedComponent". Node: Branch Graph: UpdateItemID Function: Update Item ID Blueprint: InventoryComponent
This appears to happen when the NPC's are trying to attack with a bow.
I have no problem trying to rersolve issues when I am the cause of said issues. For the price I'd at least expect the items provided with zero change to work. To be clear the script does in fact work but the error keeps firing during combat until it finally crashes. I was at 65k+ instances of this error during a combat test. Any assist with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I was wondering if it was possible to get a code or copy of the bundle version because I know 5.4 is coming and combining all 3 again would more or less be a bit of a pain. I would rather just have the bundle version so it would save me a ton of time. I got the melee 2 years ago and just got the ranged/magic. It took a bit of time putting them together along with my own changes, I just think it would cut down on a lot of time, and its really the same thing anyways.
UPDATE: Ok I sent a message to support for it to get escalated, here is the case number is: 02191828, just wanted to make you aware, just incase in you get message. Again thank you so much for being supportive of this, since it would help me alot once the big update happens.

Sure! Nothing set in stone in terms of dates but my next steps of production are:
- Update and tweak the system to be more versatile when it comes to weapon switching, provide another Inventory UI, tweak some of the systems with minor improvements, all in preparation for a Gun Add-on, then update the system along with changes written
- Produce a Gun a neighboring shooter/Gunslinger asset which can be combined with the FCS for my shooter users.
- Review any undocumented functionality and create YouTube tutorials to assist users using the system.

Yes! I have a tutorial on how you can set up a metahuman, as for voice the dialogue allows you to play any audio over the top of a track, I'm unsure how the metahuman works however. Hope this helps ?

MMO Saving

How does the MMO saving work? You replied to one question saying you first need to connect to a server. Can you not save if playing multiplayer without a dedicated server? Instead you can't just save both people's instances locally and only have things be LAN based for early development?
Would it be easily possible to introduce a different save method? I noticed there is an AWS Signer by BackEnd Tools on the marketplace. Could something like this remove the need to use a server?

Hey Dino! So there are various types of saving:
- Host saves all players info and world info (host is required to start the game)
- Each client saves their own data with the host saving the world (for a game such as Valheim where each character can load into different worlds with their pre saved character
- Server saving where the server saves all character & world data
Because of these different variations it made it hard for me to set this up for everyone so I left the Save system unreplicated where a host can save their own data. This is something I'd like to improve down the line to make it easier to adapt.
As for the tools on the marketplace I'm afraid I've not heard of them, would have to look into them before giving any advice in that area. Hope this helps slightly!
Quickslot Bug With Gamepad

Hey, FCS is awesome! So I just came across a very persistent and annoying bug with the Quickslots at the bottom that only appears when playing with gamepad. So if you collect any loot from a killed enemy you are suddenly stuck in the Quickslots and you can't get out of it unless you open the Radial Menu. Are you aware of this bug and do you know a way to fix this?

Sure! You can hide any elements on the inventory as all the widgets are separate blocks, you can set this to hidden as you seem fit.
For Multiplayer saving isn't currently setup for all clients as there are multiple types of saving: Solo/Co-op/MMO. It's currently setup for standalone or MMO once connected to a server!

Sure! Bow and Melee weapons are already setup so you could change these over to Sci-Fi weapons no problem! I've yet to add guns though that is going to be an add-on created over the next few months!
As for Multiplayer everything is replicated and Multiplayer ready apart from the Save System as this will be unique for each game.

Sure! For Character you would just want to adjust the Camera boom length so its more of a zoomed out shot, for UI there is a UI HUD which holds the UI elements, you can scale each UI to fit as you see best. Hope this helps ?

I wanna ask if its quite possible to use my own inventory and stat system for this. Im really interested in the combat parts but the whole crafting stuff etc is still there in my project.

It would all come down to your understanding of the system! In December I plan to do a tutorial going over the inventory system and how you might want to swap a new one in.
The stats are stored in the equipment component and are pulled from here into various things for calculating the damage of melee/ranged/magic attacks as well as UI visuals on the Character Inventory screen.
Swapping the Inventory would require a bit more work as this is used for Chests, Vendors, picking up items and player inventory. To sum it up you would need to understand both systems before swapping it over ?

I know of tuts for multiplayer, but I'd rather have 1 geared using your template.

You can swap everything over to Top down however the Magic asset contains the spell selection bar which is used for abilities in the top down system!

I've made a lot of progress towards an ARPG that leverages HD2D graphics with a non-controllable camera system. I'm OK with Blueprints, so I'm curious how difficult it would be to switch to PaperZD for all character animations, or if that may be more trouble than it's worth?

I'll be honest I've not got a great deal of experience in how HD2D graphics work, when it comes to my system it runs with:
Event Triggers: These run attack animations and movement, as long as you can swap these over to your PaperZD character then you'll have no problem
Animations: I'm sure you know how animations work but they run via movement as well as by events for attacks, drinking a potion etc.
Weapon triggers: Weapons/Arrows/Spells hit via traces/collision spheres, you would need to give your PaperZD collision so these collide
I'm afraid I don't know enough about how PaperZD works in Unreal engine to give you more of an idea but these are the main requirements of the system.

Hey Luzh! I've done multiple tests with up to 4 clients and the system runs like normal but this is limited as the more client ran the lower the PC frame rate, when this frame rate drops the weapon collision sphere traces get reduced causing less accurate weapon hit collisions. For proper testing multiple PCs connected together would need to be done which I've yet to do!
As for ping, for competitive Multiplayer game which requires skill shots (league of legends for example) anything above 60-100 ping would cause issues as those skill shots wont respond correctly.
I'll be making an FPS addon for the system in December if things go well!

Anything you use from the marketplace can be used in any game you create no credits required, however this system uses some relatively advanced blueprinting techniques I'd recommend following some of my tutorials or starting off with the basic system that you can find on my marketplace page if you are close to a beginner. Combat is separate from all the other systems! Leveling up and stats are tied to the Equipment Component which affects equipping items but apart from that it's all separate ?

Of course! You can set any player or AI to be against either player or AI based on Team settings, so you can have multiple players against AI, AI against AI, player against player, or player and AI vs player and AI on different teams.

Hey! Good question let me try shed some light on it...
- With combining any two systems its always going to be a matter of how much knowledge you have on the systems, I have made the FCS as simple as possible along with tutorials to break down the system and understand it but as the system is advanced it will be a case of how simple the other systems you have linked are, to how simple it will be to combine them
- I'm not entirely sure what you mean by branching but the Dialogue system allows you to make any variety of Dialogue combinations and events
- Not yet but this is something I would like to add!!
- Not yet however you can combine it with ALS using my tutorial which comes with climbing etc!
- Also no mounts as of yet but many people have requested this so this is also something I will be looking into

Mac, Mobile and VR are all supported as it is with Unreal Engine however the system is only setup to use PC/Gamepad controls as of yet, adding VR or Mobile will require you to change some controls to fit these control methods.

Thinking of grabbing this because it seems to have a nice base for most systems to work off of. But quick question about what I want from the combat and to see if it is kind of a quick set or extensive overhaul to accomplish.. Is the combat driven off of a class or of weapon?
I.e can I have my player attack with a sword, swap over to a bow with a flick of a button and shoot some arrows and at any time decide to cast a spell?
The second question is I actually want to have guns, If I have all the animations and assets would it be easy to just swap that into the ranged combat or will that be an extensive effort to add in a different "combat" style. Let me know please and I can decide to purchase, thank you !

Combat is driven off the weapons! Allowing you to have a whole range of animations for any kind of weapon rather than to be limited on set animations. The combat is setup in Melee/Ranged/Magic allowing you to flick between them as you like, I've separated them with a mouse wheel but you can set this up with an easier keybind.
For guns I'll be working on a gun addon come December!!

Would you be able to add turn based combat support? You already have the majority of systems in place, it would just be a matter of creating a the flow. Given what is happening with unity there are hoards of people are coming from unity (myself included) who were developing turn based kinds of games, there will be more people than ever looking for a solution. Even slay the spire is moving to unreal from Unity. There’s also a huge community for fan pokemon/final fantasy games using unity that ive seen trying to find solutions here.
However it seems like theres currently no viable asset for turn based combat, the closest is the 'jrpg turn based' asset, however that isn't network replicated and this week the dev has said he's more or less finished adding any new features to it and doesnt plan on adding replication in the future.
The majority of unity devs i know developing tbc are jumping ship to unreal and godot and have come to the same conclusions. So theres a huge gap in the market and it would be awesome if an asset as comprehensive as this was to add that as a feature to use, particularly during a time like this where people are looking for viable solutions.

Hi,
I just have question to the Mannequin animations.
So basically you use, the Mannequin character controller to bring in the animations, correct?
Because Iam interested in another product from another company which retarget mixamo rigs to the Mannequin where I also can use custom mixamo animations and map them to my Mannequin character rig.
So than when I would use your plugin, I can establish on the Mannequin the animations of the flexible combat system.
So the chain would more or less look like this:
Flexible combat system --> used on Mannequin <-- remapping Rig from mixamo (ohter plugin).
= (new) Mannequin (with mixamorig remapping + flexible combat system)
I know it sound a bit complicated to be honest :)
But is this more or less correct, could this aproach work theoretically?
Because I think, when theflexiblecombat systemuses the Mannequin rig system as base it should work.

For animations you can bring them in if the skeleton is the same super easy! Otherwise you can bring in whatever skeleton you like and then retarget the animations (I have a tutorial covering this), from there if you need more animations using the same skeleton you can import it directly onto the new skeleton and they will work. How editable is the melee AI?
For example if I want a specific, custom attack type to be performed while an enemy is blocking, is this something that can easily be added in? (For example when the player blocks I want certain smarter enemies to disengage and start healing)

Of course you can change it as you like! The AI is already setup to run a break block attack when the enemy is blocking so you already have some functionality which will help you on your road ?

Hi, I purchased this product a little over a month ago, I am still a bit confused on if there are any tutorials or info on how to port our game with FCS to mobile or other handheld platforms? I ask this mainly because a primary target platform of ours is on handheld devices and the system looked lightweight enough via demos and trailers. Loving the documentation thus far btw!

Hello! I've played the demo and noticed that you need to switch to magic from melee and only then character can use spells.
Is that possible to set up input so you cast spells while holding the sword and the other way around. Basically, 1 button press is a melee attack and the next one uses the spell?

Online Multiplayer OWS2 integration

Hi dude, I'm currently working on a project that should grow to a MMORPG type of game. I really would love to use your bundle as the foundaition for the game system. As I understood there is now a multiplayer option (offline), waiting on your video on that component with excitement! If I want to use FCS in an online version, I'd need to migrate it on to something like the OWS2 if I'm not wrong. Are there any experience from your side/your community on the difficulty / required expertise to develop a MMORPG type game using OWS? I was recently in contact with the OWS guys and they mentioned it would be probably highly difficult to integrate other predeveloped systems to their project with my limited experience. They are using the UE Gameplay Ability System as a base, does your product uses this as well by chance? This would limit the incompatiblities a lot.
And sorry if my question maybe is a bit confusion, I'm just a real rookie in all UE topics... :)

Hey David! So the whole system is replicated meaning all the clients will be seeing the same things through server data passing. I've not heard of OWS2 before I'm afriad, that being said I've put a lot of work into the system to make it easy to understand and change if wanted, but when combining any two big systems you will have to have a solid understanding of them.

Hey amigo! So the asset includes come complex stuff so you will need a good base knowledge of what nodes do and how unreal engine works, that being said it is as beginner friendly as an asset can be, with tutorials coming out on the topics and friendly people to help out.

Haha thank you I appreciate that!! We're so so close now, all that's left is running through the Magic and systems map for single player then do a quick review of the bugs, from here I will send out a packaged demo for people to test and report back bugs. During that time I will then run through the Melee, Ranged, Magic and Systems again via Multiplayer to check those bugs out.

Hi i have some questions again.
I tried the Demo and its really fun, i definetly want to use this System when ill be making my RPG.
I am pretty sure i will buy this System once i have the money, probably birthday money in a few months.
Since i want to work with UE 4.27 id like to know how the support for the engine will look in the future? Will you continue updating this system for UE 4 and UE 5 or only for UE 5?
Also i have some questions about the bow.
Is it possible to lower the gravity for shooting so that the bow will fly at a straight line for a longer distance?
And i noticed the character is charging the bow automatically and when you press left-click he will shoot.
Would it be possible to change that to having to hold the mouse button to charge the shot and then release the mousebutton to shoot?(for reference the best comparison i have atm would be Middle Earth Shadow of War, really satisfying archery)
While changing arrow types you are kind of in slow motion. Could i make a skill out of that for the player if he holds the button he loses stamina or mana but is anble to aim and shoot in slowmotion?

I would recommend starting of with the FCS basic if you're a beginner and following the tutorials available on my YouTube channel, it will guide you through some of the more basic concepts ? Then when you're ready I'd move onto the updated version as those concepts are improved massively, I am still in the process of making tutorials for the new system so currently there is less support

I'll be honest I've not looked into top down controls before but I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to revamp the controls and camera to be top down, there are other users in my discord who have attempted similar things?
Lock on with mage and update release

Checked out the stunning demo and will immediately buy once it's compatible with 5.1.
Two questions:
1) Is it simple to change the mage targetting to normal lock on?

Most of the spells are point and click on the ground similar to world of Warcraft style but the projectiles should be simple enough to swap over yes!
Unfortunately it takes a while for epic to review new projects and I've got so much coming in the update that it's coming all together, that being said 5.1 does work already but there's just a few small bugs with it which I will iron out in the next update. Adaptivity

This looks like a great pack i will buy once i have the money if it fits what im looking for.
Its stated there are 7 weapon types/styles. can i add more? And lets say the player character reaches a specific stat in 1 handed weapons could i change the animation for that weapon style once the player reaches certain treshholds?
What about spells? could i add new spells or edit existing ones?
also can i combine this system with other addons on the marketplace, for example ascent combat framework?
Response:
The whole system is built to be easily edited. The 7 weapon styles cover the movement animations but each weapon can have as many animations as you like for it!
The weapon animations are set in a datatable so you'd be better off having ranks for the weapon rather than changing the data.
Sure spells are incredibly easy to add and edit, I've set up templates for all of them.
As for combining this system with another complex system the only way to do it would be to have a good understanding of both systems and migrate the content you like from one system over to the other, there's no easy way to integrate two massive and differently coded systems.

Yes the main character can use all 3 styles by switching between attack styles, you may want to change this setup to fit your game though!

How Advanced Are The AIs?

Hi, I'm interested in your template, but I have some questions regarding the AIs. If you have a group of AIs, do they take turns attacking?
If so, what variables are they checking? (Ex. who hasn't attacked yet, who is closes, who can attack, etc)
And how many variables are there total?
Sorry if that's a lot of questions. I'm just trying to find a template that fits my ideal game and also has advanced AIs that are easy to modify if needed.

Sure no problem! At the moment the default setup is to have 1 AI engaging in combat at a time while the others circle the fight, if an AI on the outside owns a bow or magic they will fire at the player when in line of sight, if an AI out the outside is Melee and the player turns their back on them they will run in for a strike on the player while he's not looking.
The number of AI's engaged fighting at once can be changed with a single integer variable, then there are a few other variables which can tweak the AI difficulty, things like chance of block, how often they attack.

Hi, I am considering buying your system and these are what I need but I am not seeing them in the demo or description:
- AI group companion: Having at least 2 group of AI (one on your side) to fight against the other one.
- Push Force: In your demo, the explosion arrow did not push the AI when they are still alive. What I need is an explosion does that and the AI will be able to get up again.

Hey brother! I'm hoping to add a companion way down the line but unfortunately that would be after the Multiplayer/Crafting/Resource Collection update coming around March and the Gun content coming a month or two after that!
As for the push force there should be radial force which pushes enemies back when shooting explosion arrows, if there's not that must be a bug and I'll look into fixing this for the March update ?

It will be February my friend however the system should have no issues moving to 5.1, a good developer friend of mine said everything was working correctly apart from 1 or 2 Niagara VFX.
The save system isn't setup for the Arena level! Should work for the other testing levels, I should add a note for this now I think about it ?. Thanks amigo!

Of course, for the animations all the skeletons are currently set to use animations from a database but with a bit of tweaking you can change this.
Arrows and Magic were setup so you can easily add more if wanted, you'd just make a child of the arrow parent or spell parent depending on which spell type it is (projectile, cast while moving, channel moving, channel stand still, buff, heal etc)
The system is setup for 4.27 & 5 already, I am in the middle of updating the system to Multiplayer however when that's done I will be updating it to 5.1, hope this helps ?

I'd recommend starting with my FCS Basic if you're a complete beginner as that will introduce you to some more basic principles. For a system like this I'd recommend having a decent understanding of Blueprints, I offer lots of support with tutorials and guidance on Discord however this support runs on the principle that you have a decent understanding of how blueprints work. I am not sure if this question was already asked, but I discovered a small bug. If you're playing your game and make your character run then keep turn your mouse so your characters turns left or right. Your stamina bar will stop draining for a second or stop draining all together. Is there a fix for this?

Congratulations on developing the best CFW on the market place. I've already purchased it myself and the sheer amount of effort in the demo alone was outstanding. I'll be sure to support with a review once I've had a chance to develop a bit further with it.
I appreciate you get hassled quite a lot with questions for timeframes, specifically multiplayer, which I myself am also looking forward to. I was just wondering if you could give an approximation on things (even if its say, mid 2023 - end 2023)
I'd be interested in knowing approx how many tutorials (which are highly appreciated from us all) are to come before the gamepad, gun and multiplayer upgrades will commence, (if possible, of course). This is just to save me checking in on the youtube channel every day. So just vague estimates.

Thank you very much for the kind words, this is just the beginning of the FCS I am currently in full development mode currently aiming to improve and add in a heap more features. As for features these are what I am "hoping" to add, I say hoping as I will have to see the timeframe required for each one and how practical each of them are:
- Improved Turn in place/
- Foot IK
- Climbing?
- Fall damage
- Fall animations
- Fall roll animations
- Gamepad Controls
- Multiplayer
- Gun Content
- Crafting
- Companions
- Multiple Save Slots
- Sound Setting Menu
A few of them are guaranteed like Crafting, Gun content, Gamepad and Multiplayer. As for timeframe I'll be honest it's super hard to tell, I am a really fast developer however I have a heap of work cut out for me. I'd like to say Multiplayer would be around April 2023 however it could potentially be sooner or later depending on personal interruptions, delays in development etc. I will aim to support all the new features with transition tutorials but as a warning, there is no way I will be able to provide the changes for all the Multiplayer work, I'm hoping to follow it up with a Multiplayer tutorial series so users can implement it themselves but a decision for you down the line will be whether to create a new project with the update and use that as a base and copy over what you've been developing yourself, or to use your own project as a base and copy it over.

Modular Options

Loving this build so far and took some time playing around with it. As far as customization is concerned, can this system be adopted into a top-down game mode? And I noticed the behavior trees are set up for mixed combat. Can "dumb" AI be made with your setup, like an enemy that is purely offensive and will not block or use special attacks?

Sure! Top down is just changing the camera work. As for dumb AI you'd just need to assign them a different behaviour tree which uses less advanced tools ?
Change Character Skelton (Different AI Skeletons)

Hello, I have problems making different AI Skeltons that can use all combat as the main character. I watched Unreal Engine - Flexible Combat System - Change Character Skeleton (update) and all is fine if AI and Main is the same skeleton. What if i want to make AI Skeleton and Zombie? Main could be "mannequin". Everything works fine, but AI wont Attack. And if i change data tables for my AI, then my Mannequin cant attack. Thanks a lot! The product is great by the way!

As long as you use humanoids you can use the same skeleton if they have the same bone hierarchy. If you want two different humanoid skeletons you'll need to use different animations for them ?

I've implemented gamepad and keybindings in my projects before, but I haven't done anything mobile yet...but I'm looking into it as I believe that is where my current project and future projects will be going.

hello, from what I can see, also following the guides, it seems that, for how the animations are used, all the characters in the game (players and ai) must share the same skeleton. This is unthinkable, especially for AI .... what if I want to use a giant spider as an enemy?

You can change the skeleton for the AI using my change character skeleton tutorial. They're using the same skeleton at the moment so they can both use the same combat animations ?

Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to give an ETA on replication as there are so many updates I need to add before making everything replicated such as companions, multi slot saving, gun functionality etc. I understand the concern and if it makes you feel any better the Flexible Combat System is my full time job at the moment which I plan to keep improving for years to come, I can give you a 100% guarantee that I will be adding replication down the line. That being said I understand waiting, I will be doing a Discord/YouTube announcement when it arrives so if you follow one of those I can update you then ?

This is something I'd need to think about maybe doing a tutorial on as the list is massive, I will think about doing an excel spreadsheet at some point, in the meantime I'd recommend trying out the downloadable demo as it will give you a feel for the changes. Quest/Combat/Crafting/Custom Add ons

Hello,
I have several questions. I have quikly skipped over the tutorial and lightly played demo, so if several of this questions are answered there sorry.
1) Quest/Dialogue
- Do Quest and Dialogue have node based representation so I can edit it in the graph. If no, can it be easily implemented (I am new to Unreal so don't know how editor scripting is done, yet)
- Can I have parameters inside dialogues for example dynamic name, or some value?
- Can the Dialogue (Polylogue) be with more than two people?
- Do quests have naviagation?
- Do I have minimap or similair navigation system, or any navigation at all? if no will it be hard to imnplement.
2) Combat
- Can I add throwables like grenades? (They would be magic grenades which would be consumable and upon contact explode with different effects)
- Can I add traps? The best example I can give you is Horizon Zero Dawn type traps.
- If I want to some strange new combat system can it added easily without disturbing this system.
- Does it have climbing?
3) Crafting/Gathering
- Do it have crafting or gathering? It looks like no but asked anyway.
- Are you going to implement them?
4) Custom Added functionality / Other
- Do I need to know C++ programming to change some parts?
- If I want to add other plugins for example Footstep or Building Systems, from different asset would it be hard?
- I want to add Survival like food and water would it be problem?
- Can I easily swap your inventory system to another tetris based inventory system asset?
- Can I swap Quest and Dialogue with another asset?
5) Can you make text based tutorial please.
PS. Overall from the Demos which I played I think you have best one and most polished battle system. But 200$ is not small amount and before buying want to know what it can and can't do. For me it's not a problem if most of the above mentioned are not by default. But I need to know that I can implement/swap them easily by myself or with some other assets/plugins.

1) No C++ is required for this project, it's a purely Blueprint project
2) There are no reasons why adding plugins to the FCS would be a problem however when adding any plugin to a system it would depend on the complexity of the plugin
3) No problem
4) The inventory component can be swapped out but again you would need to understand how the system works, the inventory system is used for Player inventory, Chests and Vendors so I'd recommend changing the current inventory look rather then replacing it all.
1) I will be doing all the required video tutorials but I will aim to produce some kind of text documentation afterwards.
Damn this was a bit of an essay haha. is it possible (noob friendly) to make the leveling system give you points, that you invest in a chosen stat (and not increase them automatically)?
Also, is it possible to make a stat that only increases damage of a certain magic type (like Fire Spells only), or a Stat that increases 2handed damage, this would make it possible to simply change the Stats into Skills - Gothic/Oblivion style.

Hey! It would be extremely easy to do that my friend, you'd just need to look at the Equipment Component, instead of instantly leveling up when XP is gained you'd store that level up as a integer, then you'd have a separate widget UI which can be opened to level up and select the chosen stat, all of it is in the equipment component!
This is also possible, you'd just need to add a heap more variables and break down intellect into multiple Damage types, then on the calculate Damage function in both the Melee and Magic Component increase the damage based on what spell type it is.

I've heard a lot about how flexible the system is but how flexible? Can I Make new units? Change stats? UI Changes? Player augmentation and stat scaling (Skill Trees)? Custom Items etc? Hey my friend! That's quite a complex question to answer over message but to summarize, while building the system I left as many things open as possible and designed things to be changed. This means I've left references open via BP interfaces to prevent hard references, I've added in as many features as possible when designing the system so anything unwanted can be removed with ease, I've tried to make things simple with tutorial support allowing the system to be tweaked to fit each individual game. I've followed this approach when designing each feature to make things less stressful during development time when it comes to changing things.
To answer your questions:
- You can make new units, each AI has multiple custom variables allowing you to easily change or create children AI from that parent BP.
- Stats can be changed or added as you see fit, they are all setup in the Equipment component and then used by the individual Melee, Ranged, Magic components.
- UI can be changed by simply changing the graphic, I will be creating a tutorial on this.
- Skill trees are not yet implemented however I am hoping to add this in down the line.

2 Questions Regarding Character and Inventory

- How hard would it be to change the inventory if need be or how is yours set up? I see a lot of systems favor jigsaw style inventory. I am wanting to place everything in a tab menu style way (kind of like traditional rpgs like Loz, Okami, Kingdom hearts, Final fantasy, etc) which includes the inventory, map, quest, options, character/equipment, and skill tree, without breaking anything that's hard too find so that I can fix if need be. Vs having to hit inventory and it brings it up in the world, i'd rather have it come up in a tab that brings up the menu. Can this be done safely or is it better to delete a lot so that I can make my own menu everything and reconnect to the player or components you may have set up?
- Is it easy to change the character. I have many characters. Some of which are animals or ones with slightly different rigs from your typical humanoid. Can this be easily changed or is there something I need to be aware of before replacing anims, blendspaces and things in a BP?

Forced Rotation While Attacking

Could you please clarify regarding my earlier question. I'm not sure you understood when you advised I check the targetting component.
When the character performs an attack, regardless of whether they are targetting or not, they always rotate at the beginning of the attack to face the camera direction. So even if I move my player to be facing right, if I click, they will turn to face forward as they peform an attack
What I am trying to do, is have it so that this doesn't happen. I did look at the rotation related booleans in the targetting component and have tried all possible combinations and eventually just unplugged them as you suggested, yet the attacks still force the camera facing direction, so it must be elsewhere this is set.
It would be great if you could show me exactly where you are referring to? That would be a huge help and I can share this knowledge with the users who have also asked about this on the discord too.

Ah I see ? This is in the Place character Animation Blueprint, when an animation plays it fires an anim notify. 1 starts the rotation and 1 stops is via changing a bool variable. This functionality is all in the ABP.

I'm afraid it is only 4.27 and upwards however projects can very easily be updated from 4.26 to 4.27 with little impact. Simply open the project with the 4.27 version and your project will create a 4.27 copy ?

Combat Executions?

Sure! All you'd need to do is tweak the current system so execute is available after stun, you'd then need the appropriate animation but it'd run the same way the current one does but without the camera change!

I know how to change the camera, and know the animation will look strange and need tweaking. However will anything unexpected happen from just moving the player camera to fp? Also do you still plan to add guns, and if so is that being actively worked on? If it's not would adding some musckets and flint locks with new animations, told to consume "shot" rather than arrows be an easy to add to the ranged system or would it require a complete overhaul of the syestem and/or a new system seperate from the other ranged functions?

Going FPS would be perfectly fine and I'll be doing a tutorial on that at some point, you'd need to remove the camera adjustments in the Player Character however. Guns will 100% be added my friend, I'm currently planning it out at the moment however I need to get these tutorials out first. It would be a different system to the ranged but it would be somewhat similar ?

I'm wondering how you might advise I approach my development using it. If there are going to be large updates like Multiplayer support, would it be best that I implement child classes of the classes from the system, so that these aren't broken when these updates are eventually released in the future?

Hey my friend! So the gamepad and Multiplayer development will be begin after I finish all the tutorials, the problem is that multiplayer is such a large change that there is no way I can do a step by step tutorial on changing this, gamepad might be possible however what I'd recommend is to continue working on the project and developing it as you like, then either make the decision to add in multiplayer yourself or wait for me to finish it, if you decide to wait for it prepare yourself mentally to create a new project with the multiplayer update then to copy paste any functionality you've worked on (from now until the update) over to it. Unfortunately tutorials on changes or new project is the only way of providing updates. Hope this helps ?

I've been learning UE5 by myself with tutorials and so far so good! Now I'm considering getting this pack but I was wondering:
- It seems the gamepad support is not there yet. How hard would it be to do it myself? (as a beginner unfortunately!)
- Also, I want to add ennemies (have the animations and meshes) would that be easy as well?
- Lastly, if I have my own player attack animations, would it be easy to replace the existing ones?

Hey amigo no worries at all!
So gamepad support is actually really easy but slightly confusing at the same time. The easy part is changing over the player controls over to controller, you'd just need to bring in the new keybinds and replace them, the hard part is using a controller for UI such as an inventory, with some tutorial assistance I don't think this would be too much of an issue for you however!
As for changing meshes and changing animations this is no problem at all, I'll be doing a tutorial on how to do this but it won't be out until later in August I'm afraid. I'd recommend waiting rather then me trying to explain it all though?

first the melee class lunge in the air attack always attacks 90* off of a targeted enemy
second the magic class, I picked up the money and hit U, none of the spells had any ui to tell me what they do, but also I was not able to drag any of them into my hotbar.
I didnt try the ranged class as i already had issues with the previous 2...

Hey Zeth! I was told about the 90* Melee lunge attack bug, I might have to reupload the demo again as it seems to be an upload issue, after being told about the bug after the users created a new project it seemed to fix itself.
As for the Magic that seems a bit strange, all you need to do is pick up the money, learn a spell from a spell trainer then press "U" to open the spell book and right click or drag the spell on. Once you've added spells use the mouse wheel to go to Magic stance and right click to charge the spell and left click to fire. I'm away until August the 5th but if you want to hop into the Discord I can chat to you about it and find the issue.

As for customisation combat can be customized whatever way you like, the Niagara Magic VFX can be changed if you have some skills in Niagara. The whole asset is fully customisable ?

The demo download (which is 2.6gb) is atrocious.
Broken or unintuitive UI leading to clunky experience genuinely makes me question the quality of the asset as there's no easy way to assess the core of this highly priced asset.
I'd recommend stripping out your demo asset and actually putting relevant gameplay in there rather than 1990's UI which impedes potential customers from even trying out what you're trying to sell.

The demo needs an update as there are a few bugs that have been fixed since the demo launch but apart from that it has all the gameplay elements. Have you tested out the Melee, Ranged, Magic training maps? As well as the Arena? There should be 4 maps filled with gameplay on the demo. Have you managed to access a map or are you stuck on the main menu?

Moving between levels

Does the character's equipment, inventory, etc. all carry over when moving from one map to the next? For instance, If I leave the main map through a door that leads to the dungeon level, will the player enter the dungeon just as he was, or will the game try to reset him?

Most likely will purchase here soon. However had a question. You mentioned animations from Space.Bar.Anim who sells on this Marketplace too. If using those animations, isn't the submission guidelines prohibiting using any marketplace assets that aren't Epic's own free ones (or custom build elsewhere) ?
I ask as plan to submit my own System here soon and right now lack placeholder animations which could actually get from marketplace. :) Again great job! Your tutorials have helped a lot of us out !

Hey Deity you are exactly right, you can only use Epic games free animations. In my case however me and space did a collaboration. With permission from the seller you may use their animations! Hope this helps glad my tutorials have helped, let me know if you have anymore questions ?

Hi, subscriber for a while here, i just bought this asset.
I see you plan to add multiplayer and controller options, i have some questions about it, because multiplayer kinda scares me.
1- Will the controller support be done first, before the multiplayer?
2- Will the multiplayer system added be easily identified and or nullfied for project under the single player scope?
3- Can we expect one of your awesome videos on this multiplayer change or documentation?
4- Can you let us know when the changes come, either here or discord? i would love to get a version uploaded before and one after the multiplayer so i can finaly learn that base on your changes from single player.
5- I have seen mentions of the ALS integration, will you do a tutorial on that integration?

Hey my friend sorry for the late reply I've been only holiday! So...
1) controller support will happen before multiplayer yes
2) I'm still trying to figure out the best way of implementing multiplayer but I think the only way to do it will be to update the entire system and then users can copy over functionality or update to a new project
3) Tutorials will be on every topic don't you worry?
4) I'll be announcing it on discord and YouTube!
5) ALS tutorial will hopefully be coming out this month but it might be delayed!

Can warrior mages set different bone mesh bodies? For example, the warrior is a male, while the mage is a female. In the demo video, it seems that they are all the same set of bone meshes

At the moment the Armour sets are rigged to the mannequin meaning they will only work with this skeleton. I will be making a few tutorials on the armour sets explaining how you can tweak these for other characters ?
Can the AI dodge?

Can the AI dodge? What about line of sight, can they see you above and below as well?

The AI can dodge yes.
The AI will begin looking for the player if they're out of line of sight.
They can only see what is in their vision, if you are hidden behind a wall they won't see you however if you're stood up next to a wall they will.

RPG Attributes and Stats

I've noticed through the playable demo that the character is able to gain experience and level up and that weapons and armor can have level requirements associated for use. But does leveling up increase any attributes or stats that make the player stronger? Can the player assign points that will make them more proficient at melee combat, vs ranged or magic?

Yeah there are RPG stats included which will increase the players power however there are not talent trees at the moment. This was something I was thinking about including down the line ?

I was really hoping to pick this up but don't think that will be happening anytime soon. Good job with everything that you have done on this project! However, I am more confused now after the recent update. As a learner, I wanted something easy to follow and understand but this isn't for me right now. Will you be making more videos in the coming future to help beginners get a better grasp of things?

Is there multiple AI types? can the AI switch between combat types during battle? Is the boss AI different than the noramal AI? CAn the AI diffeculty be increased? Can there be non-human or more than just bi_pedal enimies in this?

There are a heap of AI settings which can be changed. For each AI you can change...
- Stats and damage
- Appearance equipment
- Melee weapon style
- Archer arrow types
- Mage type (fire, frost, poison, electric)
- If the AI can switch attack style
- AI level
- AI loot
There will be tutorials covering how to change AI difficulty ?

What about tutorials, when can we expected more to go over all the system?
Is there weighted/ kickback combat in this- like can the player or AI be knocked down or back based on different hits?
Is there a execution finshers for each weapon type and can there be more than one?
Can you use the different combat types like magic and arrow separate or not at all, without having to do mayjor BP work?
Can you mhave groups of AI fight each other?
Are there assassinations in this, from the back as will?

Hey my friend sorry I just got back from holiday!
Guns is definitely happening in the next update but I have no ETA currently on when it will be complete I'm afraid!
Tutorials can be expected to be released over the next month and there will be one covering every feature
There is a brief stun after each attack but no knockdown effect added yet.
There can be execute finishers for whatever weapon you like as long as you have the animations for them
You can use magic and ranged separate or combined no blueprinting required
AI can be turned to attack each other using "madness" which is included in the ranged and magic asset however there is no group AI combat setup yet
All the assassinations come from the back ?

You know how in devil may cry they have a launcher that launches the enemy up in the air and makes it easy to follow-up with an attack. Basically it's like momentarily reducing the gravity for that specific attack. Is that something included in the melee class already or would I need to add it?
EDIT: Oh, I found out how to add it. There's a single okay-ish tutorial for it on youtube and the stylish combat starter kit. Having a single good tutorial on it would be a blessing.

The inventory and equipment system are dependent on each other but the combat is separate ? the inventory and equipment could be split up if you wanted though, the equipment just allows you to physically equip the item
